Every two weeks, Highlander Highlights shares with readers some of the extraordinary research and accomplishments happening on and off campus through the tireless work and curiosity of our students and faculty. 

On the streets around Radford, you’ve probably noticed the 2019 BMW i8 with gull-wing doors, sleek and purring at a stoplight. Perhaps you’ve even passed it on the street – or, more likely, it passed you.

Across the next three weeks, a group of Radford undergraduates in the Radford Away Research Expedition program will travel to Peru to visit Puerto Maldonado as well as the Las Piedras Biodiversity Station, a lab located within more than 30,000 acres of rainforest. During their visits, they’ll explore the region and conduct experiments of their own design. 

This month, a group of intellectually curious ������������̳ students will embark on a two-week trek exploring remote areas tucked away in Southwest Virginia’s Appalachian Highlands.

Six students in ������������̳’s College of Education and Human Development teacher preparation program who were each awarded $5,000 in scholarship support from the Hattie M. Strong Foundation.

 This week in Highlanders in the News: Meet three new, incoming Highlanders, all of whom have recently made headlines – Kara Alday, Callie Musselwhite and Kaitlyn Woodby; Professor of English Rick Van Noy takes a trek down the Delaware River and finds a new book; and Ben Carlin ’12 gets a state commendation for his work on and around his blockbuster YouTube channel. 

������������̳ held Spring Commencement ceremonies May 3-4, 2024, awarding degrees to 1,398 undergraduate and graduate students.

You may know Aysha Bodenhamer ’10 as a ������������̳ alumna and faculty member in the Department of Sociology. Earlier this year, however, Bodenhamer began a new role, serving as her alma mater’s newest sustainability manager. It’s a position she said will allow her to do more to “instill a culture of sustainability” in the Highlander community.

I’yonah Cartwright has made the most of her time at ������������̳. From her achievements in the classroom to her work with civic engagement and organizations on campus, her efforts are a testament to the mission that guides her work: to see others succeed.
