Slient Sky -500-72

Silent Sky

By Lauren Gunderson
Astronomer Henrietta Leavitt goes to work at the Harvard Observatory at a time when women were not even allowed to touch the telescope. As Henrietta set about measuring the distances to remote galaxies, she must also take measure of her place in the universe as a scientist, sister, lover, and as a woman. Playwright Lauren Gunderson says her wildly popular play 鈥渋s about the glory and hard work of science鈥 story of family, both the ones we are born with and the ones we choose. It鈥檚 the story of sisterhood and, yes, a little bit of old-fashioned boy meets girl as well.鈥 Based on a true story, this beautiful play has a heart as vast as the heavens. Don鈥檛 miss it!

Cows Don't Fly and Other Known Facts

Adapted by Vivian and Larry Snipes from the books by Paul Brett Johnson

Look! It鈥檚 a bird! It鈥檚 a plane! No, it鈥檚 Gertrude the Cow! Cows don鈥檛 fly, everybody knows that. But someone forgot to tell Gertrude. She is just one of the many adventurous animal friends to be found on Miss Rosemary鈥檚 farm. It鈥檚 the wackiest tractor-drivin鈥, piano-playin鈥, circus-performin鈥, barnyard full of critters you鈥檝e ever seen. Based on the books by Paul Brett Johnson, this delightful play for young folks is a wild ride that ensures bales of laughter and a story sweeter than Miss Rosemary鈥檚 apple pie.

SPRING 2024

Are we alone?

The Aliens 500-72

The Aliens

By Annie Baker

Two 30-somethings loiter in back of a Vermont coffee shop. Among the dead plants, milk crates, and cigarette butts, they muse on poetry, their long-defunct rock band, and their broken dreams. When a lonely high schooler happens on their world, they seize the opportunity to teach the boy everything they know about life. Annie Baker鈥檚 quiet play of friendship, art, love, and death is a powerful and empathetic look at a disaffected generation, echoing the alienation all of us feel at one time or another.

*This play contains mature themes: smoking, drug use, language, discussion of overdose.

Batboy: The Musical

By Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming
Music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe

Inspired by a 1992 tabloid headline of a half-bat/half-boy discovered in a cave, Bat Boy: the Musical is the story of an outsider, dubbed 鈥淓dgar鈥 by his would-be protectors. This wild child is taken in by the people of a small town and in spite of his efforts to civilize himself, Edgar is regarded with suspicion and hounded for his strange appearance. He soon realizes that civilization is not all that 鈥渃ivilized.鈥 Then, when the shocking story of his unholy origin comes to light, a fateful reckoning ensues. This offbeat 鈥渃omedy/horror rock musical鈥 is a funny and poignant look at how we treat others based on assumptions.

*This play contains mature themes: discrimination, sexual content, blood/violence; and adult language.
