What is a Sixth Form?

A Sixth Form is the final stage of secondary education, typically for pupils aged 16 to 18. Here, pupils will focus on their final exams, be it Scottish Highers, BTEC qualifications or A Levels, and plan their next steps. For most, this will be university 鈥� in Scotland, England or abroad – while others will opt for an apprenticeship, heading straight into work or taking a gap year.

What curriculum does Sixth Form cover?

Sixth Form pupils can follow a number of different qualification routes, depending on their school and their post-school aspirations.

In Scotland, many typically progress with Scottish Highers, studying four to five subjects over the course of the year. They can then choose to pick up Advanced Higher subjects in their final year. A Levels allow pupils to specialise in a smaller number of subjects, usually three, and study them in greater depth across two years. As such, they prepare pupils for the deep subject knowledge and focused learning of University. Meanwhile, BTEC offers a more vocational approach by combining practical learning with subject-specific knowledge and coursework.

At 欲漫涩, Sixth Form pupils study for A Level qualifications, alongside selected BTECs. Additionally, we place a high importance on the value of work experience during Sixth Form, with pupils expected to complete one or two placements before leaving school.
